Well done to Strada Sport Pedal Revolution Junior Team. Zak Coleman rode away from the field and dominated the race to take 1st place at the Redbridge winter series.
Saturday saw Zak Coleman competing in his first race of the season at Hog hill. Today’s race was used as an overall training effect with Zak heavy in his extensive aerobic phase. The focus these last 8 weeks were on improving Zak’s TTE (Time To Exhaustion) in his extensive aerobic range. This training focus improves a riders resistance to fatigue and sets a solid, wide platform to then layer the harder training intensity. As Zak has not touched any training above 90% of mFTP the team at Neo was keen to see how Zak would respond to the attacks.
On the first lap a rival rider put in a big attack and Zak followed, following Zak up the road was a local powerful rider from Catford. As the race progressed Zak pushed the pace up one of the climbs and dropped the original attacker bringing the break down to two riders. The leading two riders then worked well together and built up over a 1 minute lead. Every lap the riders were on the main climb Zak was putting distance in to the Catford rider. Zak recognised this and made the decision to hit the climb hard each lap and burn some of the riders matches.
In the closing stages of the race Zak put a big dig up the climb and created clear day light between his rival rider. Once over the climb the Catford rider was unlucky to suffer a puncture. He was fortunate to receive a quick wheel change but Zak was gone. Zak then powered solo for the last 3 laps to take the win by over 1 minute.
